LRT: Ukrainian drone likely crashed in Lithuania PHOTO
Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas suggested that a drone that crashed and exploded in the Varėna district was most likely Ukrainian, according to LRT.
On Monday at noon, a drone engine was found near the village of Lavišas, close to the border with Belarus, in a local lake. The drone had exploded before falling.
Kaunas said the drone may have gone off course due to electronic warfare measures.
“Preliminary information from the services indicates that this is one of the drones that attacked the Port of Prymorsk… It is very likely a Ukrainian drone that, under the influence of electronic warfare systems, went off course and fell here,” the minister said.
He noted that neither Lithuania nor Belarus detected the drone, as it was flying below 300 meters. Authorities are currently investigating further.
Davidas Matulionis, the president’s chief national security advisor, suggested the drone could have been a “Shahed” model. However, he stressed that it is too early to draw final conclusions.
“Both Russians and Ukrainians use different types of drones, so it is impossible to say definitively where this drone came from, where it was headed, or who operated it,” he added.
