Macron's remarks vivid examples of double standards and bias – official Baku

25 September 2023 14:10

On September 24, in an interview with the French program EN DIRECT on channel TF1, French President Emmanuel Macron once again demonstrated a position that distorts the current situation in the region and is a clear example of his double standards and bias.

“France, falsely positioning itself as a defender of human rights and international law, supports Armenian separatism in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, is trying with its colonial policy, based on `Orientalism,’ to impose the experience of neo-colonialism and geopolitical competition in the South Caucasus region, emphasizing the factor of Christianity in the Azerbaijani-Armenian issue, using a religious aspect in the issue of the past conflict that is dangerous and unacceptable,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry says in a statement, Caliber.Az reports.

We would like to remind France once again that Azerbaijan’s operations to end the 30-year-long Armenian occupation in its sovereign territories, restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty are its legitimate right, enshrined in international law.

The fact that during the anti-terror measures carried out on September 19-20 against the Armenian armed formations on the territory of Azerbaijan, all norms of international humanitarian law were observed, was confirmed by international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the falsity of statements that Azerbaijan allegedly aimed at the civilian population, was even confirmed by the Armenian prime minister. Therefore, statements against the measures taken by Azerbaijan are wide off the mark.

France, which does not attach any importance to human rights as part of its colonial policy, is trying to teach Azerbaijan, on whose territory many peoples and ethnic minorities live peacefully. France, which is still silent about the violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis, who were expelled from their lands and subjected to massacres, now claims that it defends the rights of Armenians, which indicates France’s insincere intentions.

In addition to the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from its territories and the disarmament of Armenian armed forces, Azerbaijan is working to assist Armenian residents and their reintegration into Azerbaijani society.

We once again declare that France’s efforts to wreak havoc in the region will not yield any results,” the Foreign Ministry said.
