Major Microsoft IT outage disrupts airports, airlines, and businesses worldwide
There has been a major outage on Microsoft systems worldwide leading to problems for travellers during the busy summer season.
Airlines, airports, media companies as well as other types of businesses have reported problems as their systems rely on Microsoft, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam reported on X: "There is currently a global system failure," noting that flights to and from the airport were affected. The airport advised travellers to contact their airlines for updates.
Spain's AENA, which manages 46 airports, stated on X: “The global technical incident is primarily impacting billing and passenger information systems, but contingency measures are being implemented.” They assured that efforts were ongoing to address the situation.
Spanish airline Vueling announced on X: “Our flight operations may be altered due to the global computer systems outage. We are working to minimize disruptions and will notify affected passengers via email.”
London Gatwick Airport also experienced delays, with a statement on X noting: “We are affected by the global Microsoft issues, which may cause delays during check-in and security. Passengers should arrive at their regular check-in times, and we apologize for the inconvenience.”
Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair reported: “We’re experiencing disruptions due to a global third-party IT outage beyond our control.” They advised passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure.
A “widespread worldwide” computer malfunction is affecting hospitals and other health services in Israel, the country’s health ministry said in a statement on July 19.
Tech outages are causing disruption globally, with airports and media outlets affected across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
