Media: Armenian border reinforced by foreign laborers, security concerns raised
Armenia’s state border infrastructure is reportedly being reinforced with the help of foreign laborers, primarily workers from India, Egypt, and Iran.
Citing sources within the Armenian Defence Ministry, Zhoghovurd daily announced the development, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the publication, the identities of these workers do not undergo full verification by the National Security Service (NSS). As a result, there is no guarantee that individuals posing as low-cost labor are not, in fact, affiliated with foreign intelligence services or acting as informants capable of passing sensitive information to hostile actors.
Zhoghovurd further notes that open tenders are issued for the construction of border infrastructure, including detailed descriptions of the technical specifications of upcoming facilities. This practice, the newspaper warns, effectively makes sensitive security-related information accessible to potential adversaries.
