Media: India investigating data on possible supplies of shells to Ukraine

06 January 2024 17:20

Russia has expressed concern over the supply of Indian shells to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

India's security service is investigating information about the possible arrival of the shells via Slovenia or Poland, the Indian newspaper The Economic Times quoted sources as saying.

According to ET, Russian and Ukrainian sources say that 155-millimeter Indian shells entered the hands of the Ukrainian armed forces in the third quarter of 2023. According to security sources, a third country, which is a NATO member, may have gained access to the shells for shipment to Ukraine through arms dealers or another state.

ET points out that an active supplier of shells to Ukraine since the beginning of hostilities was Pakistan. Earlier, the publication quoted sources as saying that Islamabad supplied Kyiv with air defence vehicles, multi-barrel rocket launchers, repair and evacuation vehicles, ammunition and spare parts via Jordan and Poland.

On January 4, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal denied reports about the supply of artillery ammunition to Ukraine. Earlier, a video showing a Ukrainian serviceman holding an Indian-made 155-mm shell was circulated on social networks.
