Media: Kocharyan discusses Pashinyan's impeachment in Moscow
Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan recently made an unannounced visit to Moscow, marking his second trip to the Russian capital in the past two months.
The visit has fueled speculation about possible developments in Armenia’s domestic political scene, particularly with Hraparak writing that the former president travelled to discuss the potential impeachment of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Caliber.Az reports.
Following his previous visit to Moscow, Kocharyan held a press conference in which he signaled a resurgence in his political activity.
The newspaper writes that the focus of his most recent trip was the issue of Pashinyan's possible removal from office. Sources suggest that further public statements and concrete steps may be taken in the coming days.
While Kocharyan did not meet with Sergei Kirienko—Russia’s Deputy Chief of Staff and recently appointed overseer of Armenian affairs—he reportedly held discussions with another high-ranking Kremlin official with deeper expertise in Armenian matters.
“It is not ruled out that Kocharyan was urged not to be too categorical on this issue and the names of the prime minister candidates were discussed with him,” the paper writes.
On May 6, Armenia's opposition United National Constitutional Party (UNCP) initiated a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The UNCP has been a vocal critic of Pashinyan's leadership, particularly over his handling of national security and regional issues.
Pashinyan, who came to power in the wake of Armenia's 2018 Velvet Revolution, has faced mounting political pressure in recent years, especially following the outcomes of conflicts in the Karabakh region.
