Media: Russia-Faroes deal on fisheries puts Denmark in "stupid position"
The extension of the fisheries agreement between Russia and the Faroe Islands (an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark) against the backdrop of a Russian special military operation in Ukraine has put Denmark in a “stupid position.”
Flemming Splidsboel, a senior researcher at the Danish Institute of International Studies, made the corresponding remarks in an interview with Danmarks Radio.
Previously, this agreement was not given much attention, but now it has been extended at a stage when many countries of the collective West are “severing relations with Russia.”
Splidsboel noted that the extension of the fisheries treaty represents a challenge for Denmark and puts the kingdom in a “stupid position”, since the Faroe Islands continue relations with the Russian Federation as before.
