Messi, Mbappé named among top three players of 2026 World Cup

Argentina captain Lionel Messi and France forward Kylian Mbappé have been named among the top three players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to FIFA.

The 27-year-old Mbappé finished as the tournament's top scorer with 10 goals and also led the goal contribution standings with 10 goals and four assists, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The 39-year-old Messi ranked second in both categories with eight goals and four assists.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on July 19, while England beat France 6-4 in the third-place play-off.

Earlier, Spain midfielder Rodri was awarded the tournament's Golden Ball as the best player of the World Cup.

Messi received the Silver Ball, while Mbappé was awarded the Bronze Ball.
