Mirzoyan: Armenia buying weapons from more countries than it did under previous gov't

03 November 2023 15:10

Armenia now manages to buy weapons and equipment from an incomparably larger number of states than it did under the previous government.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan made the remark during the discussions on the 2024 draft budget in the parliament, answering a question from opposition Armenia bloc MP Kristine Vardanyan, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

The latter asked why the country's top leadership constantly claims that Armenia has money but does not sell weapons, and how the authorities are going to ensure the country's security against this background.

To this, Mirzoyan parried that the former authorities could only dream of making defence deals with other countries, as is done by the current leadership of the country.

"You are used to weapons being given drop by drop, given as much as they needed so that Armenia wouldn't kneel and other scenarios would be involved. Fortunately, the situation is different now. Of course, there are logistical problems, Armenia could buy much more defensive weapons if there were no logistical problems," the minister noted.

He believes that the security mechanisms created under the previous authorities and so "protected" by the opposition today have not worked.

It should be noted that Russia has been and remains the traditional and main supplier of arms and military equipment for Armenia. In recent years, however, the country has also signed arms deals with India and France.
