Moscow adds dozens of Britons to its entry ban list for anti-Russian activities
Russia has imposed sanctions on 30 British citizens as a countermeasure to what it describes as hostile actions by the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made in a statement published on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"As a retaliatory measure against the hostile actions of the British side, a decision has been made to include several individuals in Russia’s 'stop list' who have been actively engaged in anti-Russian activities. This includes representatives from the political establishment, the military sector, high-tech enterprises, and the journalistic community of the United Kingdom," the statement read.
The Foreign Ministry clarified that the decision was taken in response to "the ongoing aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric of British authorities" and the systematic sanctions imposed by London against Moscow.
The Ministry also emphasized that work on expanding Russia's "stop list" would continue.
Earlier, it was reported that British Ambassador to Russia Nigel Casey had been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry over a violation by Second Secretary Edward Wilks. Wilks allegedly provided knowingly false information about himself when obtaining permission to enter Russia.
In general, since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has banned hundreds of foreign nationals from entering the country, including those from the United States and the United Kingdom. In February, Moscow barred entry to 18 British nationals.
