Moscow confirms upcoming consultations on bilateral disputes with Washington
Russian Ambassador to Washington Alexander Darchiev announced on August 16 that consultations between Russia and the United States aimed at removing obstacles in bilateral relations will take place in the near future.
He told reporters that Moscow refers to these discussions as “consultations on irritants,” where both sides intend to address contentious issues in detail, Caliber.Az reports.
Darchiev emphasised, however, that the normalisation process would be lengthy.
He also revealed that Russia had prepared a package of documents concerning the resumption of direct air travel with the United States, adding that he hoped the recent Russia-US summit in Alaska would help pave the way toward improved diplomatic ties.
Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, contacts between Moscow and Washington have intensified.
On August 15, delegations from both countries met in Alaska to discuss the war in Ukraine.
The meeting brought together Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, accompanied by their top officials. The Russian delegation included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, while Trump was joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
The Alaska summit marked the first meeting between Putin and Trump in six years, following their last encounter in Osaka in June 2019.
Putin described the talks as “useful and thorough,” stressing the importance of restoring cooperation with the United States. Trump said that while the two sides had reached an understanding on many points, no concrete agreements were finalised during the summit.
