Moscow funds housing repairs after spring floods in Caucasus
The Russian government will allocate more than 4.4 billion roubles ($57.4 million) in additional funding to support residents of Dagestan and Chechnya whose homes were damaged or destroyed during severe flooding in spring 2026, according to TASS.
Dagestan is set to receive over 3.8 billion roubles ($49.4 million), while Chechnya will be allocated approximately 557 million roubles ($7.2 million). The funds will be used to carry out major repairs to damaged housing and to finance the construction and purchase of new homes for affected residents.
An additional 275.3 million roubles ($3.6 million) has been earmarked for the restoration of eight cultural centres damaged in the disaster, including six in Chechnya and two in Dagestan.
Heavy rainfall in March and April triggered widespread flooding across parts of both regions, damaging residential properties, private land plots, and critical infrastructure, including education and healthcare facilities, as well as public utilities and engineering systems.
