MU manager says Ronaldo in his plans for upcoming season

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is “not for sale” this summer and that he is planning on the wantaway Portugal star remaining at Old Trafford next season.

Ronaldo has not travelled with the rest of the United squad on their pre-season tour, after being granted additional time off to deal with a “family issue” but the situation has been complicated by the uncertainty over his future, per The Telegraph.

The 37-year-old has privately expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, but Ten Hag - who takes charge of his first game as United manager against Liverpool in Bangkok on July 12 - is adamant that he expects him to stay at the club next season.

“He’s not with us and that is due to personal issues,” Ten Hag told reporters at a press conference on Monday. “We are planning with Cristiano Ronaldo for this season so that’s it. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

 “I don’t know, he hasn’t told me this. I have read [it] but what I say Cristiano is not for sale, Cristiano is in our plans and we want to have success together,” he replied to questions about how he plans to deal with Ronaldo’s desire to leave.

Ten Hag said he had not spoken with Ronaldo since news emerged that he wants a move amid interest from Chelsea and Napoli and was unsure if the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would join the tour. United are due to fly to Melbourne after the Liverpool game before concluding their trip in Perth.
