Musk urges Zelenskyy to resign for peaceful transition in Ukraine
US billionaire Elon Musk, who oversees the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has advised Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to give up power and leave Ukraine.
“True. As distasteful as it is, Zelensky should be offered some kind of amnesty in a neutral country in exchange for a peaceful transition back to democracy in Ukraine,” Musk wrote on his X account, Caliber.Az reports.
On February 28, 2025, a highly contentious meeting took place in the Oval Office between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The meeting, which was televised, ended abruptly without the anticipated signing of an agreement concerning Ukraine's rare earth minerals. The meeting saw confrontation stem from differing approaches to ending the Russo-Ukrainian War.
The Trump administration sought concessions from Ukraine to expedite peace, while Zelenskyy's government sought security guarantees against future Russian aggression. The meeting's fallout was significant, with the U.S. administration suspending all military aid to Ukraine three days later, pending Ukraine's commitment to peace negotiations.
Following the meeting, Elon Musk has been vocal in his criticism of Zelenskyy. Musk accused Zelenskyy of perpetuating a "forever war" with Russia and suggested that Zelenskyy had the option to seek peace but chose continued conflict instead. He labeled Zelenskyy's actions as "evil," "cruel," and "inhumane."
