Official: Uzbekistan sees rapid growth in renewable energy
Energy sector development in Uzbekistan has accelerated in recent years thanks to reforms and the political will of the country’s leadership, Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov said at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.
He noted that Uzbekistan has achieved significant growth in the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in daily electricity generation in a relatively short period, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"We reach more than 50% renewable generation in daily output on some days, and with new energy storage capacity, up to 13% of peak-hour demand is covered by battery systems," the minister said.
Mirzamahmudov stressed that these results were made possible through large-scale energy reforms, international cooperation, and foreign investment.
He highlighted the contribution of partner countries, including Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, which supported renewable energy projects, as well as China, which has shifted from an EPC contractor role to direct investment.
The minister also mentioned cooperation with Azerbaijan and SOCAR, which together with BP has started geological exploration work in Uzbekistan.
According to him, the key success factors are consistent reforms, international partnerships, and practical project implementation rather than only discussions and plans.
