OIC calls for ceasefire in Sudan for Eid holiday
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha called on the conflicting parties in Sudan to stop all acts of violence and conflicts during the Muslim holy holiday of Eid al-Adha.
The secretary-general stressed that bloodshed should be avoided on the Muslim holy holiday and humanitarian agencies should be allowed to deliver aid to the conflict-affected regions of Sudan unhindered, Anadolu reports.
He also called on regional and international actors active in the conflict in Sudan to support efforts for a ceasefire.
Clashes between Sudan's army and the Quick Reaction Force (QRF), which have been ongoing since April 15, escalated again with the end of a three-day truce that began on June 18.
The clashes in Sudan, now in its third month, have killed about 1,000 people and injured about 5,000.
