Orban pushes for EU-Russia diplomatic revival In a letter to Charles Michel
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called for the resumption of diplomatic relations with Russia and the initiation of negotiations with China on a peace conference to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
This appeal was made in a letter to European Council President Charles Michel, Caliber.Az reports echoing German media.
In his letter, Orban provides an overview of his recent discussions with leaders from Ukraine, Russia, China, Türkiye, and former US President Donald Trump. He includes several proposals for consideration.
Orban's letter spans one and a half A4 pages and includes ten points. He expresses concern that the intensity of the conflict in Ukraine will escalate significantly in the near future.
"In general, it can be observed that the intensity of the military conflict will radically increase in the near future," the letter states.
Furthermore, Orban calls for talks with China to organize a peace conference, the resumption of diplomatic relations with Russia, and a "political offensive" to regain the respect of the global South, which he believes has been lost due to the current stance on Ukraine.
The letter caps a week of diplomacy, during which Orban visited Kyiv, then Moscow, and then Beijing, on a self-described Ukraine "peace mission" days after Hungary assumed command of the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.
