Organisation of Turkic States sets date for 2025 summit in Baku
The Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) has officially announced the date for its upcoming summit in Azerbaijan.
Ömer Kocaman, the OTS Deputy Secretary General, said that the summit will convene on October 6-7, 2025 in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
This announcement follows the informal summit held earlier this year on May 20-21 in Budapest, which was part of the Organisation’s dual-summit schedule for 2025, comprising both official and informal gatherings.
The forthcoming official summit in Baku is anticipated to further strengthen cooperation among member states, advancing key political, economic, and cultural initiatives within the Turkic world. It will also provide a platform to address regional challenges and enhance strategic partnerships.
The Organization of Turkic States, originally established as the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) in 2009, is an intergovernmental entity dedicated to fostering comprehensive cooperation among Turkic-speaking nations. Its founding members—Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye—were subsequently joined by Uzbekistan as a full member during the 7th Summit held in Baku in October 2019.
Hungary was granted observer status at the 6th Summit in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, in September 2018. Further expansions of the organization’s membership include Turkmenistan’s accession at the 8th Summit in November 2021, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in November 2022, and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) as an observer member in 2023.
The Organization steadfastly adheres to the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, alongside other universally recognized norms of international law. These principles encompass sovereign equality, respect for territorial integrity, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders. Moreover, the Organization is committed to upholding international peace and security, while promoting the development of amicable and cooperative relations among neighboring states.
