Pashinyan on Armenia-Azerbaijan relations: "Our newborn peace is growing"
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan provided the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) with an update on the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlighting the historic significance of the recent peace agreement.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Pashinyan emphasised the crucial role of US President Donald Trump in facilitating the process.
Speaking at the autumn session of PACE, the prime minister noted that until August 8, 2025, Armenia and Azerbaijan had taken a series of steps to achieve peace and establish interstate relations. However, he stressed that without the involvement of President Trump, the current result would not have been possible.
“In the US capital, Washington, at the White House, a declaration was adopted that formalised the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. President Trump, as a witness, also signed this declaration,” Pashinyan said.
He described the establishment of peace as a historic event, emphasising that it is an achievement of not only the Armenian government and people, but also of the Azerbaijani government and citizens.
“Peace is not a holiday or a rest; peace is daily work. Peace, like a newborn child, requires daily care. Our newborn peace is 1 month and 22 days old today, and we must cherish it, love it, and take care of it so that it grows, matures, gains strength, and contributes to the prosperity of our South Caucasus region,” the prime minister added.
Pashinyan also stressed the importance of addressing the humanitarian aspects of the conflict, including clarifying the fate of missing persons and resolving the issues of those who were imprisoned during the decades-long conflict.
