Pashinyan visits border village to persuade discontented residents, claims revanchist archbishop
Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the revanchist movement, has alleged that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited Kirants (Gyuney) along with Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, purportedly to convince villagers, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
The villagers are reportedly discontented with the outcomes of the delimitation commission meeting. The fact is that within the framework of delimitation, a part of the village territory - two houses, a bridge, a section of the interstate road to Georgia and, tentatively, about 50 land plots - should be ceded to Azerbaijan.
While Galstanyan refrained from confirming the accuracy of Pashinyan's alleged visit, he mentioned circulating reports suggesting attempts to persuade villagers to accept compensation. However, he stopped short of asserting the absolute authenticity of this information.
It's worth noting that Prime Minister Pashinyan is scheduled to participate in an event in Dilijan today.
The ninth meeting of the delimitation commissions on May 15 resulted in the signing of a protocol description, chaired by Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev. As a result, a protocol description was signed on the delimitation of the border directly between the settlements of Baganis (RA) - Baganis Ayrym (AR), Voskepar (RA) - Ashagi Askipara (AR), Kirants (RA) - Kheyrimli (AR) and Berkaber (RA) - Kyzyl Gadzhili (AR) in order to bring them in line with the legally justified inter-republican border that existed within the Soviet Union at the time of its collapse. The maps of 1976 were used as a basis.
