PM: Georgia-Kazakhstan cooperation key to regional stability

06 February 2025 15:30

Close cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan is crucial for ensuring sustainable growth and regional stability, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated on X following high-level talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana.

"I held fruitful talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on issues regarding the multifaceted partnership between Georgia and Kazakhstan in areas of mutual concern. Grateful for the interest of the Kazakh side to deepen cooperation in all areas of common interest," Kobakhidze wrote, per Caliber.Az.

Kobakhidze arrived in Kazakhstan on February 5 for a two-day official visit, during which he will also meet with his Kazakh counterpart, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The discussions will take place both in one-on-one meetings and in an expanded format, involving key ministers from both governments.

The Georgian delegation accompanying Kobakhidze includes several top officials, among them First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Bochorishvili, and Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze. Also present are Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili, Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Alexander Tsuuladze, Minister of Sports Shalva Gogoladze, and Head of the Government Administration Levan Jorjoliani.

Diplomatic ties between Georgia and Kazakhstan date back to July 1992, and since then, the two nations have built a strong partnership across key sectors, including energy, transportation, and agriculture. Kazakhstan has remained one of Georgia’s top investors, significantly contributing to its energy and tourism industries.

The growing economic ties between the two countries are reflected in the latest trade figures. In 2024, the trade turnover between Georgia and Kazakhstan surpassed $922 million, marking a 25.3% increase compared to the previous year. Kazakhstan remains one of Georgia's top ten trading partners, with exports from Georgia to Kazakhstan rising by 22.3%.
