PM: Georgia plans to become one of Europe’s least corrupt countries
Georgia has set an ambitious target to rank among the top three European countries with the lowest levels of corruption, a goal officials say is achievable thanks to ongoing and planned reforms.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling corruption across all sectors, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
Speaking to local media, he pointed to recent changes within government structures and public institutions, as well as measures to investigate potential violations.
“Let me reiterate: our ambitious goal is to secure a place among the three European countries with the lowest levels of corruption. Considering the steps already taken and those planned, this objective is entirely realistic,” Kobakhidze said.
Earlier this month, the ruling Georgian Dream party announced amendments to the country’s anti-corruption law. The changes will specifically target public officials found guilty of financial crimes, signalling a more robust approach to accountability.
