Türkiye open to role in post-deal Hormuz mine clearance
25 April 2026 13:14
Türkiye may consider participating in demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz following a potential Iran–US peace agreement, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Speaking in London, Fidan said that if an agreement is reached, mine-clearing operations in the strategic waterway would likely be carried out by a multinational technical team. He added that Türkiye would have “no problem” taking part in such efforts.
Fidan also stated that Ankara would reassess its involvement if the situation shifted toward renewed conflict involving such a coalition.
Separately, he said that issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme could potentially be resolved in the next round of talks scheduled to take place in Pakistan.
