Poland, Ukraine ink long-term security agreement

08 July 2024 18:32

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met in Warsaw to finalize a long-term security agreement, underscoring Poland's steadfast backing for Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia.

The agreement, signed during high-level talks between Tusk and Zelenskyy, marks a strategic alliance between the two nations amidst ongoing geopolitical challenges in Eastern Europe, Caliber.Az reports per foreign sources.

Zelenskyy's office announced that discussions focused on defence cooperation, Poland's support for Ukraine's integration into Europe, and preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Washington.

Zelenskyy's visit to Poland aimed to solidify sustained support for Kyiv in its defence against Russia's invasion, coinciding with a nationwide missile barrage that resulted in approximately 20 reported fatalities, including an attack on a children's hospital in Kyiv.

Poland, a staunch advocate within the European Union, has played a pivotal role as a haven for millions of war refugees, with nearly one million currently seeking refuge within its borders.
