President's special envoy urges companies to keep Lachin clean
Masim Mammadov, Special Representative of Azerbaijan’s President in Lachin district, called on companies to keep the city clean and remove waste in a timely manner.
Mammadov voiced the remarks at a meeting of the Working Group on Environmental Issues that some companies do not remove waste after construction works, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Lachin is rich in water and forest resources. The Istisu mineral deposit can be explored here and exploration for mining can be organised. This will also be an important step in providing employment for the town's residents,” Mammadov said.
Lachin is a place rich in natural resources and mysterious beauty. Lachin State Nature Reserve, which was established in 1961 to protect rare natural complexes in the region, covered 20,000 hectares of area, and Garagol State Nature Reserve, which was established in 1987, covered 240 hectares.
The nature and natural resources of Lachin district were plundered by Armenians for 28 years until it was liberated from occupation in 2020 following the signing of the trilateral agreement by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia. Forests were cut down, specially protected trees were felled, natural resources were plundered and exported to Armenia.
