Radio Liberty: Armenia starts work on design of road bypassing Azerbaijan's Lachin
Armenia has started the work on the design of a road bypassing Azerbaijan's Lachin District.
About a month ago, local residents noticed designers in the fields near the district, Caliber.Az reports citing Radio Liberty's Armenian edition.
Sevada Danielyan, a member of the administration of the Kornidzor community (a village in Zangazur – ed.), suggests that they probably waited until the villagers finished harvesting before starting work.
"There is nothing yet because people are just starting to clean up the fields, maybe they were waiting for the end of all agricultural work to then do their own business. I can't say what exactly they were doing, whether they were shooting or measuring, I'm not an expert in this," Danielyan said in an interview with reporters.
At a meeting of the Armenian government at the end of June, a decision was made according to which money is allocated for geodetic and cartographic work on a number of roads, including the reconstruction of the M-12 Kornidzor-Karabakh highway, the report adds.
It notes that Azerbaijan is building a section of a new road that will connect Armenia and Karabakh.
"Turkish and Azerbaijani builders are already at the final stage of road construction in the areas near these Armenian villages, and the Armenian side is just starting design work.
There is no talk in official Armenian circles about the timing of the construction of a new road that will replace the Lachin corridor and connect Armenia with Karabakh," Radio Liberty's Armenian edition said.
