Wildfire in Türkiye crosses provincial borders, firefighting efforts intensify Photo
A major forest fire in Türkiye’s Sakarya province has spread into neighbouring Bilecik, prompting large-scale firefighting efforts by both land and air.
Emergency teams are battling to contain the blaze, which has forced the evacuation of several villages and sent smoke drifting as far as Eskişehir, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
The fire, which initially ignited in the Hacılar neighbourhood of Sakarya, crossed into the Osmaneli district of Bilecik, drawing a swift intervention from regional forestry teams, firefighters, and aerial firefighting units.
The rugged terrain in the area has made the response more difficult, with heavy machinery being used to open access routes to the advancing fire line.
Authorities confirmed that flames have come dangerously close to Kızılöz village, which had already been evacuated the previous day.
Several residents were seen loading personal belongings onto tractors and relocating to safer areas.
Smoke from the fire has now reached parts of Eskişehir, particularly Mihalgazi district, highlighting the fire’s growing impact beyond its immediate vicinity.
