Iran's IRGC claims missile strike on US air base in Jordan
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a missile and drone strike targeting U.S. military assets at Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan, saying the operation was carried out in retaliation for recent American attacks on Iranian targets.
In a statement issued by Iran's state news agency IRIB, the IRGC said the strike formed part of the 14th wave of Operation Nasr-2 and involved the use of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to the statement, the attack targeted U.S. fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft stationed at Al-Azraq Air Base.
The IRGC claimed that several U.S. transport aircraft and fighter jets were destroyed or damaged during the strike. It further alleged that the aircraft had previously been based at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar before the United States relocated its command centre to Jordan following earlier Iranian attacks on the Qatari installation.
The reported strike comes amid escalating military exchanges between Washington and Tehran, with both sides carrying out a series of retaliatory operations across the region in recent days.
