Death toll rises to seven after US strikes hit bridges in southern Iran
The death toll from US strikes on bridges in southern Iran has risen to seven, while nine others were injured, according to Iran's Fars news agency, which cited Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences.
The strikes took place overnight on July 17 in the city of Bandar Khamir. Iranian media said one of the targeted bridges links the port city of Bandar Abbas with Lar in neighbouring Fars Province.
According to the report, the attack occurred while vehicles were crossing the bridge, causing part of the structure to collapse and several people to fall.
The latest casualty figures come as the United States said it had concluded its latest wave of military strikes against targets in Iran.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation involved fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels. In a statement, the command said the strikes destroyed Iranian military munitions, coastal surveillance facilities and air defence systems.
