Türkiye unveils first hypersonic missile, six advanced defence systems PHOTO/VIDEO
Türkiye’s defence industry took a monumental leap forward at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) in Istanbul, unveiling its first hypersonic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, alongside six cutting-edge defence systems introduced by leading defence contractor Roketsan.
The Tayfun Block-4 missile represents a hypersonic evolution of the Tayfun series, Türkiye’s longest-range domestically produced ballistic missile, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Weighing over seven tons and armed with a versatile multi-purpose warhead, the missile is designed to strike critical strategic targets—including air defence installations, command and control centers, military hangars, and vital military infrastructure—at extended ranges, setting a new benchmark for Turkish missile capabilities. Roketsan’s statement hailed the Tayfun Block-4 as “setting another record for the Turkish defence industry.”
Among the other major unveilings, Roketsan introduced the Akata capsule, a submarine-launched variant of the Atmaca anti-ship missile currently in service with the Turkish Armed Forces. Equipped with advanced technology and a high-explosive fragmentation warhead, the Akata boasts a range surpassing 250 kilometres (155 miles), promising to significantly bolster Türkiye’s naval defence in the strategically vital “Blue Homeland” region.

Roketsan also showcased the Gokbora, a beyond visual range air-to-air missile with a reach exceeding 100 nautical miles (approximately 115 miles), designed for deployment from both manned and unmanned combat aircraft platforms. This addition is poised to enhance air superiority capabilities in increasingly contested environments.
Complementing these, the Eren loitering munition, capable of targeting low-speed airborne units, armored and unarmored ground targets, and personnel, can be launched from various platforms including armed UAVs, helicopters, land vehicles, and naval vessels. Its superior guidance, extended endurance, and range exceeding 100 kilometres make it a formidable multi-role weapon system.
The 300 Er air-launched ballistic missile system was also unveiled, designed for integration on jet fighters and armed UAVs. With a range surpassing 500 kilometers—variable according to launch altitude and speed—it enables rapid engagement of strategic targets while keeping the launch platform safely outside enemy air defence zones.
Highlighting Türkiye’s ambitions beyond missile technology, Roketsan introduced the Simsek-2 satellite launch vehicle, capable of deploying satellites weighing up to 1,500 kilograms into sun-synchronous orbit at altitudes exceeding 700 kilometres. The company plans the first launch test of its predecessor, Simsek-1, in 2027.
The six-day IDEF 2025 fair, held simultaneously across multiple venues in Istanbul, is organized by KFA Fairs with support from Türkiye’s Defence Industries Secretariat (SSB) and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation. The event is hosting ministers, chiefs of staff, commanders, and senior representatives from 103 countries, with 44 nations operating exhibition booths and over 1,300 defence firms participating—more than 900 domestic and 400 international companies.
IDEF 2025 remains a pivotal platform for showcasing Türkiye’s rapidly expanding defence sector and its growing stature on the global defence stage.
