Armenian, Iranian foreign ministers discuss Washington agreements
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke by phone on August 11 with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, focusing on the results of trilateral talks between Armenian prime minister, and Azerbaijani and US presidents in Washington.
Mirzoyan briefed Araghchi on the August 8 meetings in the US capital, including the agreements reached and further activities regarding the unblocking and development of regional communications, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, Caliber.Az cites.
The Armenian foreign minister stressed that the operation of infrastructure projects, including the ones built with US partnership, would fully respect national borders.
“As previously stated by Armenia on multiple occasions and reflected in the Washington declaration, the operation of infrastructures will take place within the framework of the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction of the respective countries,” the statement quotes Mirzoyan saying.
He also thanked Araghchi “for the principled stance expressed on the Washington agreements.”
According to the statement, the two ministers also exchanged views on the preparations for upcoming consultations and high-level contacts between Armenia and Iran.
On the same day, Armenian prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.
On August 7, Iranian media announced that Pezeshkian is expected to make an official visit to Armenia within the next two weeks.
