Remains of dead Azerbaijanis to be exhumed from six mass graves in liberated lands
Azerbaijan’s State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, jointly with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), plan to carry out the exhumation of six mass graves in which Azerbaijani citizens who went missing during the First Karabakh War (1991-1994) had been buried.
The remarks came from Ismayil Akhundov, the State Commission’s Secretary, the head of the working group, during the conference "Identification of Missing Persons - Humanitarian Approach" dedicated to the International Day of Missing Persons, Report informs.
He noted that the work on the exhumation of the remains is being carried out by the State Commission within a joint project with the Baku office of the ICRC in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
“The location of six common graves has been established with geographical accuracy. Presumably, Azerbaijani citizens who died during the First Karabakh War are buried in them, and there is still no information about their fate,” Akhundov said.
