Azerbaijan resettles 104 families in Aghdam’s liberated Khidirli village Photo
A new group of former internally displaced persons has returned to the village of Khidirli in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district.
Thus, 104 families – totalling 370 people – are moving back to their native lands, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
These families had previously been accommodated in dormitories, sanatoriums, children’s camps, unfinished buildings and administrative facilities.
Their return follows Azerbaijan’s military victory in the 2020 war, which officials attribute to the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the country’s Commander-in-Chief.
This outcome, the government says, created the conditions for displaced residents to return home voluntarily, safely and with dignity after three decades.
Residents expressed gratitude to President Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for state support, and to the Azerbaijani army for what they described as the liberation of occupied territories. They also honoured the memory of soldiers who died in the conflict.
At present, more than 50,000 people live in Karabakh and East Zangazur, including resettled families, employees of local branches of government institutions, and workers in healthcare, education, culture, tourism, industry and energy who are engaged in regional reconstruction projects.
