International Youth Forum on Multiculturalism convenes in Azerbaijan's Shusha, Khankandi PHOTO
The 2nd International Youth Forum on Multiculturalism under the theme “Youth as ambassadors of peacebuilding in a multicultural environment,” recently brought together approximately 70 delegates from over 50 countries. Organized by the Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC) in partnership with the ICESCO, the forum took place across Baku, Shusha, and Khankandi, with notable activities in the latter two cities.
During their visit to Khankandi, participants were briefed on ongoing urban development projects, including construction and renovation efforts that are transforming the city’s landscape, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The forum featured keynote speeches by Irina Kunina, Head of Department at BIMC, and Rizvan Nabiyev, a Member of the Parliament and Doctor of Political Sciences, who highlighted the pivotal role of youth in fostering intercultural dialogue and peace.
A central component of the event was an interactive panel discussion addressing “The Role of Religion in Restoring Peace Amid Contemporary Conflicts,” where participants engaged in thoughtful dialogue on how faith and multicultural understanding can contribute to conflict resolution and sustainable peace.
The delegation’s itinerary also included a cultural excursion to the historic city of Shusha, a site of profound cultural and historical significance. Participants toured key landmarks such as the house of renowned poet Khurshudbanu Natavan, the Bulbul Museum, Shusha Fortress, Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, the Vagif Mausoleum, and the Jidir Plain. They also observed ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts, underscoring the city’s revitalization as a symbol of resilience and multicultural heritage.
The events on the sidelines of the 2nd International Youth Forum took place in Baku, Khankandi, and Shusha, featuring panel discussions, interactive sessions, training programs, and cultural visits to Azerbaijan’s liberated historical lands.
The Forum serves as a platform for young people of different nations, religions, and cultures to promote multicultural values, strengthen inter-religious understanding, and encourage tolerance. Its goal is to foster respect for diversity as a source of peace and solidarity, while enabling participants to exchange experiences, propose joint projects, and build partnerships.
The first International Youth Forum was held in 2019 during the 9th International Multiculturalism Summer School under the theme “Baku Intercultural Youth Forum: Interfaith in action.”
