Russia awaits verified information on extent of damage to Iranian nuclear program
The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Moscow currently possesses no reliable information regarding the extent of damage inflicted on Iran’s nuclear facilities by recent US airstrikes.
While speaking to reporters, Peskov emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the actual impact of the attacks, suggesting that it remains premature for any definitive assessment, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“No, so far I don't think anyone can have realistic data right now. It's probably too early. We need to wait for such data to appear,” Peskov said, responding to inquiries about Russia’s knowledge of the damage sustained by Iran’s nuclear sites, which US President Donald Trump has claimed were “completely destroyed.”
Meanwhile, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), declared that securing the return of nuclear inspectors to Iran’s facilities is his foremost priority amid recent US and Israeli military strikes.
Grossi emphasized the urgent need to assess the damage inflicted and verify the current status of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles.
Speaking at a security cabinet meeting in Austria, Grossi stressed, “This is the number 1 priority,” underscoring the critical role of on-site inspections in maintaining international oversight of Iran’s nuclear program. His efforts focus on gaining access to key sites, including the three uranium enrichment plants targeted during Israeli strikes on June 13.
