Russia believes EU-Azerbaijan gas deal not against its interests
Ivan Nechaev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry has said that the gas import agreement signed between Baku and the EU is not incompatible with the provisions of the declaration on allied cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.
“This is a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the energy sector, which was signed between Azerbaijan and the EU on July 18. We do not believe that such an industry document runs counter to the provisions of the declaration on allied cooperation between Russia and
Azerbaijan dated February 22,” Nechaev said during a briefing, according to Caliber.Az.
According to him, any state has the right to independently decide how and with whom to develop relations, including in the oil and gas sector.
Nechaev noted that in recent years, Azerbaijan has made a significant breakthrough in socio-economic development, which is also due to the increased interest in Baku from international investors.
