Russia delivers hundreds of tonnes of medical supplies to Iran
Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has delivered 313 tonnes of medical supplies to Iran. The cargo was transported by rail to the city of Astara, where it was handed over to authorised representatives of the Iranian government.
This marks the second batch of humanitarian aid sent by Russia to Iran, TASS reports, citing the ministry’s press service.
The humanitarian assistance is being carried out on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On March 12, the ministry delivered 13 tonnes of medical supplies to Iran via Azerbaijan using an Il-76 aircraft.
The US and Israeli military operation against Iran began on February 28. In response, the Islamic Republic has been targeting Israel and US military bases in the Persian Gulf countries. Washington has sent Tehran a 15-point plan to end the war, but has yet to receive a response. On March 26, US President Donald Trump extended the moratorium on strikes against Iran’s energy facilities until April 7.
According to AP, the United States is planning to deploy at least 1,000 paratroopers to the Middle East.
