Russia eyes joint rare earth metal extraction with US in Alaska
Moscow and Washington may reach an agreement on rare earth metal extraction in Alaska, said Boris Titov, the Russian President's special representative for relations with international organisations to achieve sustainable development goals.
“We know Alaska well historically. Fur was extracted, timber, blubber, and so on. Nevertheless, of course, some things have changed over time. I think the issue was specifically about one thing – joint extraction of minerals, including rare earth metals. That was the topic of discussion. But for now, it remains an issue, again dependent on politics. Although Trump recently mentioned it again,” he said, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
“However, until the main issue of sanctions removal is resolved, such cooperation is unlikely to develop today,” Titov added.
