Ukraine says Russia used over 60 drones in overnight assault

On December 16, Russia launched an overnight drone assault on Ukraine, deploying 69 unmanned aerial vehicles, Ukraine’s Air Force has said.

Air defences intercepted or disabled 57 of the drones, but strikes were recorded at seven locations across the country, according to the military.

Ukrainian officials said around 40 of the drones used in the attack were Iranian-designed Shahed models.

The assault was repelled using a combination of fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare teams, drone units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine’s defence forces.

There were no immediate details on casualties or the extent of damage.
