Russia restructures military education with revival of legacy institutions
Russia is moving to re-establish two historic military educational institutions under a government directive signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
According to the order, the Military Academy of Logistics named after Army General A. V. Khrulyov will be restructured, with a new Military Engineering and Technical University carved out of its existing framework. The institution traces its origins to 1939 and has traditionally been responsible for training engineers specialising in the construction of naval bases and defensive fortifications.
The directive also envisages the re-creation of the Higher Naval School named after M. V. Frunze, one of the country’s oldest naval training institutions. It will be separated from the Naval Academy named after Admiral N. G. Kuznetsov, where it is currently integrated.
