Russia sends Türkiye roadmap for gas hub
Russia has prepared and sent Türkiye a roadmap for the creation of a gas hub, and Türkiye is considering it.
"This project is now in the discussion stage, a roadmap has been prepared and sent to Turkish partners. They are currently considering it. Once it is signed, it will already be implemented in accordance with the action plan," Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with RT Arabic, TASS reports.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the idea of creating a gas hub in Türkiye could lead to the establishment of an electronic trading platform for selling energy resources to Europe.
"Here we are talking primarily about the creation of an electronic platform for gas trade to the European continent. Everyone is interested in this, including our Turkish friends and partners, and everyone who wants to receive our resources on the European continent," said Putin.
Russia delivers gas to Türkiye via two gas pipelines, the TurkStream and Blue Stream, and both work efficiently, he said.
"We have an idea to expand these opportunities. At this stage, we are talking about creating an electronic trading platform. There are no problems here," he said.
The Russian president said that Azerbaijan has also shown interest in taking part in the venture.
Türkiye has a strategic geographical position, as it is located at the crossroads of routes from energy supplier countries. In addition to Russia, they include Azerbaijan, Algeria, Niger, and others.
Putin proposed the idea of a gas hub in Türkiye about a year ago, in October 2022, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed considerable interest in the idea.
