Russia to demand clarification from Armenia for banning MP's entry

26 October 2022 13:04

Zatulin: Russian Foreign Ministry is going to send a request to the Armenian Foreign Ministry to clarify the situation.

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, pro-Armenian activist Konstantin Zatulin said that the Russian Foreign Ministry is going to send a request to the Armenian Foreign Ministry to clarify the situation, Vedomosti reports.

Zatulin told Vedomosti that he was "concerned about the policy" of the leadership of the republic, which, in his opinion, was oriented "to the interests of the West."

Zatulin said he did not know what his statements could have led to such a reaction from the Armenian authorities. According to him, the Russian Foreign Ministry is going to send a request to the Armenian Foreign Ministry to clarify the situation. "This is the first such case in Russian-Armenian relations against a representative of the parliamentary corps," Zatulin emphasized.

Vedomosti sent a request to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On October 25, the MP received a letter from the head of the external relations department of the Armenian National Assembly Tigran Seyranyan, which refers to the "undesirability" of his visit to the republic. “On behalf of the leadership of the National Assembly of Armenia, we inform you that, unfortunately, your public statements of the recent period against Armenia are detrimental to the development of friendly and allied relations between our states. In this regard, in the future, your arrival in the Republic of Armenia is considered undesirable,” the document says.
