Türkiye reaffirms support for diplomatic resolution in Ukraine
Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking at the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Brussels, Güler highlighted Ankara’s continued engagement both bilaterally and within the NATO framework, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
“At the meeting, we noted our assistance to Ukraine at the bilateral level and within NATO, and also pointed out our support for diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire and a peaceful solution,” Güler stated.
The minister also stressed Türkiye’s active role in European security initiatives, including the European Union’s Strategic Compass framework and its SAFE (Security Action for Europe) program. He emphasized “the importance of Türkiye's full participation in European Union defence initiatives, including the SAFE program for European security.”
Highlighting Türkiye’s longstanding contributions to the NATO alliance, Güler recalled that Ankara is among the top five member states in terms of defence contributions. He further reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to increasing its defence expenditure in line with NATO expectations.
The minister confirmed that Türkiye was determined to reach the 5% level of defence spending within the framework of NATO activities.
