Reuters: Türkiye appoints Gaza aid coordinator
Türkiye has appointed former head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Mehmet Güllüoğlu, to oversee the coordination of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
A source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry told Reuters that the move reflects Ankara’s intention to strengthen its role as a guarantor of the new ceasefire regime after missing previous rounds of diplomatic talks.
According to the source, Mehmet Güllüoğlu has already departed for the region. He has been tasked not only with coordinating the delivery of humanitarian aid but also with conducting inspections to identify the enclave’s priority needs.
Güllüoğlu will also liaise with UN agencies and officials from Egypt and Jordan to ensure the smooth flow of humanitarian supplies.
Türkiye is mobilising all its resources to deliver aid to Gaza as quickly as possible, establish temporary housing zones, and begin reconstruction efforts, the source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
Güllüoğlu will also be responsible for organizing the evacuation of wounded Palestinians and expanding the volume of medical assistance provided by Türkiye.
The outlet adds that Ankara has confirmed its readiness to join an international task force that will monitor compliance with the ceasefire terms.
The Turkish Defence Ministry clarified that the country’s armed forces are prepared to participate in the mission in both civilian and military capacities.
