Russian envoy says defence cooperation with Kazakhstan critical for Russia
Cooperation with Kazakhstan in defence and security is critical for Russia.
The remarks came from Russian Ambassador to the Republic Aleksey Borodavkin in an interview with the Mir TV channel.
He drew attention to the fact that defense and security issues have always been important for Russia, but now it is an absolute priority.
“It is critical for us that Kazakhstan, our ally, cooperates with us in this area,” he said.
According to the diplomat, there is an agreement on military cooperation between the countries and Kazakhstan is an active member of the CSTO.
As Borodavkin noted, the mechanisms provided for by these agreements have already been put into action. In particular, as he recalled, in January the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), including Russia, which is part of it, came to the aid of Kazakhstan "to prevent the crisis from growing and stop the coup attempt."
