Russian MFA summons German envoy over talks on potential Crimean Bridge attack

04 March 2024 12:45

German Ambassador to Moscow Alexander Lambsdorff has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in response to recent revelations regarding discussions among senior German officers about potential attacks on the Crimean Bridge.

Lambsdorff was summoned to provide explanations and address concerns related to the statements made by German officials, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.

The summoning follows an incident reported on March 1 by RT TV channel editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan. On that day, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz publicly stated that NATO was not and would not be involved in the Ukrainian conflict. However, Simonyan disclosed that senior German officers were secretly recorded discussing the possibility of attacking the Crimean Bridge without facing consequences from the German authorities.

Simonyan claimed to possess an audio recording that confirmed the officers' conversation. Subsequently, she published a transcript of the discussion, revealing that the officers deliberated on the potential impact of Taurus missiles on the Crimean Bridge and discussed various details related to the preparations for the alleged attack.

The summoning of Ambassador Lambsdorff to the Russian Foreign Ministry signifies the diplomatic gravity of the situation and the need for clarification and accountability regarding the reported discussions among German military personnel.

The Russian authorities are seeking answers and assurances regarding the intentions of the German government in light of these concerning revelations.
