Russian missile attack on Dnipro: Seven killed, dozens injured

24 June 2025 15:48

The death toll from the latest Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro has risen to seven, local authorities reported on June 24. Around 70 people have been injured, including ten children, with five victims in serious condition.

Serhii Lysak, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, said on Telegram that “the number of people affected continues to grow,” though he noted the toll could have been even higher if not for the many civilians who had sought shelter during the attack, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

“I urge everyone: do not ignore air raid sirens. Always move to a safe place,” Lysak stressed.

The strike also killed two people and injured nine in the Samara district, with four in serious condition.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) said over 70 rescuers, 17 emergency units, and additional services are working at the site, assisting the injured and dealing with the aftermath. Updates on casualties and damage are still coming in.

According to the SES, the missile strike — launched by Russia earlier onn June 24— targeted civilian areas in Dnipro. The blast wave also impacted train No. 52 operating on the Odesa–Zaporizhzhia route, which was passing near the strike’s epicenter. While there were no fatalities among passengers, several were injured and are receiving medical treatment. Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has dispatched an additional train to evacuate them.

Andriy Yermak, Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, posted video footage of the damaged train, calling the strike “further evidence of Russia’s terrorist nature.”

Local authorities reported significant damage across the city, including to at least 19 schools, 10 kindergartens, a vocational school, a music school, hospitals, clinics, and social service buildings. Numerous residential areas also sustained destruction.

The attack forced temporary adjustments to public transportation, with some trams suspended and buses rerouted.

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov and regional chief Lysak confirmed that the strike was a deliberate attack on civilian targets. Ukrainian officials are calling on the international community not to ignore these crimes.
