Russian police detain teen girl over attempted petrol station arson VIDEO
Russian police have detained a 16-year-old girl accused of attempting to set fire to a petrol station in the town of Shchelkovo, near Moscow, after allegedly acting on instructions from unidentified individuals communicating with her by mobile phone.
The incident was confirmed by Irina Volk, spokesperson for Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs, who said the teenager was taken into custody and questioned in the presence of her legal representatives, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Volk, the girl told investigators that she had carried out the attempted arson after receiving instructions from unknown people over the phone.
Russian authorities have opened a criminal case against the suspect on charges related to attempted destruction or damage to property under Articles 30 and 167 of the Russian Criminal Code.
In addition, investigators have launched a separate criminal case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code, which covers terrorism-related offences, indicating that authorities are also examining the incident as a potential act of terrorism.
