Russian security forces thwart alleged sabotage attempt on key railway
Authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region say they have foiled a planned terrorist attack on a key transportation infrastructure facility.
Officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a Ukrainian citizen, whom the agency alleges was preparing the attack on orders from Ukrainian intelligence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The suspect was recruited through a banned social network by an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). He was reportedly tasked with sabotaging a railway track using an improvised explosive device, with the objective of disrupting the transport of military equipment and weapons to the zone of the ongoing special military operation.
Authorities seized both the improvised explosive device and communication devices containing correspondence with his alleged handler.
A criminal investigation has been opened under charges of preparing a terrorist act and the illegal acquisition of an explosive device via the Internet.
