Russian shelling injures civilian, damages infrastructure in Ukraine’s Sumy region
At least one civilian was injured in renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, Sumy Regional Military Administration said.
According to the administration, a 54-year-old man was wounded in the Putyvl community after his area was hit by an unmanned aerial vehicle. The injury was confirmed as of the morning of January 5, Caliber.Az reports.
Between January 4 and January 5, Russian forces carried out more than 20 strikes on 16 settlements across 10 communities in the region, local officials say. The attacks involved artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, FPV drones, and other UAVs.
The shelling caused damage to civilian infrastructure in several communities. In the Seredyna-Buda community, private residential buildings were damaged. In Krasnopillia, a private car and a civilian infrastructure facility were hit, while a private house was damaged in Bilopillia.
In the Sumy community, residential buildings, a passenger car, and civilian infrastructure facilities sustained damage. An administrative building was affected in Velyka Pysarivka, while in Putyvl a passenger car and a truck trailer were damaged. In the Shostka community, a civilian infrastructure facility, a non-residential building, four residential buildings, and private cars were hit. Damage to a civilian infrastructure facility was also reported in the Znob-Novhorod community.
Local authorities said that during the day, five people were evacuated with the assistance of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations.
